Kathleen Crittenden – Biography

Kathy Crittenden came to Viroqua in 2007 after retiring from the University of Illinois at Chicago where she was professor of sociology. She and her husband, Kelvin Rodolfo, a UIC geology professor, were seeking to join with others in building a sustainable community. They see VSN as the most effective local organization pursuing this agenda. They built an earth-bermed, solar and wind-powered home on eight acres, called Pheasant Walk, where they are developing a permaculture estate and market garden. In 2008 they were actively involved in the grassroots effort to stop Dairyland Power from siting a coal-ash landfill in Vernon County.
