VSN Voyageur – 1 woman tracing 10 years of citizen science on 100 miles of the Kickapoo River

On Sunday, September 19th, the Valley Stewardship Network’s Water Quality Program Manager, Sarah Grainger—the “VSN Voyageur”—will embark on an 8-day paddling journey down the Kickapoo River in the name of science and education. This 100-river-mile journey from Ontario to Wauzeka/Steuben will trace 10 years of citizen based monitoring in the Kickapoo River Valley. Information collected by the VSN Voyageur will be combined with data from the past ten years in a Watershed Assessment Report to be published next year.

Voyageur Paddle Stops and Times on Sunday, September 19th:

10 AM Start – Titanic Canoe Rental, Ontario

11:45AM – Landing 4 (Bridge 4)

1:30 PM – Landing 5 (Bridge 5)

2:30 PM – Landing 7 (Bridge 7)

4:00 PM – Landing 10 (South of Bridge 10, near Kickapoo Valley Reserve Campsite R)

4:30 PM – Landing 12 (South of Bridge 11, near Kickapoo Valley Reserve Campsite Y)

5:30 PM (generous approximate) Final Take Out – Landing 14 (Bridge 14)

Please feel free to accompany the Voyageur on the entire journey or for a shorter stint.  You can put in or take out at any of the landings. We will leave each site at the time specified above and will arrive at these locations at or shortly before these times. Please arrange for your own shuttling, or if renting a boat, coordinate with the Titanic Canoe or appropriate rental agency.  To arrange a canoe rental the Titanic Canoe you can contact them at 1-877-GET-SUNK.

Along her 100-mile journey the VSN Voyageur will be testing water, assessing habitat, hosting educational demonstrations, and celebrating milestones with the public. You are welcome to join her by participating and pledging your support.
