Flood Cleanup Opportunity with Workforce Connections

Gary Thompson, VSN Stewardship and Education Coordinator, is coordinating a work crew with Workforce Connections to work on flood clean-up in the Kickapoo River Watershed. Workforce Connections is a local organization working to assist community members who lost their jobs due to the August Floods of 2007. Clean-up work began in April of 2008 with the removal of deposited debris from last year's flood event. Now, area residents are faced with much more work as the process starts all over again.    

This is a daunting task due to recent additional flood damage in the region. VSN is presently seeking additional supervisory help to manage a work crew of up to twelve workers.  Work hours and days are flexible.

The position requires some supervisory level skills. Duties with this volunteer activity would include coordinating predetermined work activities at specific job sites, supplies and equipment manangement, recording hours worked on daily time records, and being available as a medical emergency contact.  All workers are covered under a federal workers compensation program.

Gary Thompson will provide an initial training regarding the above tasks for anyone able to volunteer for this effort. See attached photos of recent clean-up efforts.
