The members and volunteers of Valley Stewardship Network want to preserve the unique views, water quality, wildlife and the rural aspects of life for future generations to behold. We must take a stand on policies that promote conservation. Towns, cities and villages in the Kickapoo Valley are beginning work on comprehensive planning and consideration of land use regulations. VSN is actively involved in planning workshops and training to encourage and support local involvement in visioning the future of the area.
In 2003 the Valley Stewardship Network put much energy into raising awareness of the importance of comprehensive planning in the watershed. Kickapoo Conversations was a structured exercise in community visioning held simultaneously in four locations throughout the watershed. It succeeded in bringing together over 250 people of diverse backgrounds, lengths of residency, and varied degrees of connection to the land to develop a “Vision Statement for the Kickapoo Valley in the year 2020.”
