The Kickapoo River watershed is home to many unique birds, mammals, fish, and amphibians. A bird survey conducted along the upper Kickapoo River valley concluded that over 100 bird species make their homes here.
Some ecologically sensitive amphibians also live here, including the pickerel frog, rattlesnake, and the threatened Blanding’s turtle. Mammals seen near the river include beavers, otter, mink, muskrats, white-tailed deer, fox, skunks, and possum.
